FORENSIC LINGUISTICS

Forensic Linguistics is recognised as a science by the National Science Foundation and is used in legal contexts in the United States, United Kingdom and Europe. It is taught at and used by most major universities both nationally and internationally. Forensic Linguists use evidence-based tools to describe, compare, discover and make findings about written and spoken language in the legal context. These skills can be applied in both investigative and judicial contexts.
  • Linguistic Profiling- Stylistic analysis that can point to demographic features of an unknown writer

  • Author Attribution- Linguistic analysis to confirm the author of a document

  • Threat Assessment- Evaluation of level of concern of known and anonymous writers using threat assessment and linguistic markers
