Psychological assessment for medico-legal matters
Medico-legal matters involving psychological injury require an independent assessment of psychological
functioning, diagnosis, impairment, relevant history and ongoing needs.
Illuminate FP&L provides psychological assessment and reporting for medico-legal matters arising from workplace,
institutional, public liability, malpractice, victims of crime and other areas of civil law.
Areas of assessment
Depending on the questions to be addressed, an assessment may consider:
-
Current psychological functioning and reported symptoms.
-
Relevant psychological and psychosocial history.
-
The course and context of reported difficulties.
-
Relevant clinical and other documentary information.
-
Alternative or contributing explanations for the presentation including malingering and duress.
-
Psychological questions relevant to the specific medico-legal matter.
The issues examined will depend on the referral questions and the information available. Any opinion concerning causation, diagnosis, impairment or prognosis is supported by the assessment and falls within the appropriate scope of expertise.
Independent assessment and reporting
Medico-legal assessments require a considered evaluation of the available information and a clear explanation of the reasoning underpinning any opinions.
Reports are prepared to address the relevant questions, explain the basis for the conclusions reached and identify material limitations where appropriate.
Artificial Intelligence is not used in the assessment, formulation or reporting in any matter undertaken by Illuminate FP&L.
